Introduction

What?

BatchShrink is a system tray utility that automates the process of encoding DVD files with DVD Shrink 3.2.

  • encode multiple DVDs one after another with no user interaction
  • ouput to .ISO or VIDEO_TS folder
  • set language and subtitle settings individually
  • enable/disable Deep Analysis and High Quality Adaptive error compensation as required
  • set a meaningful volume label
  • COMING SOON: change target size for each DVD

How?

Simply create a plain text file in a special format containing details of the files/folders that you want to encode. Then run BatchShrink and come back when it's done!

BatchShrink will read source files from any device that is accessible from your system:

  • optical (CD/DVD/Bluray) drives
  • network drives
  • internal/external hard drives
  • any other storage device that you can link to your PC

Why?

The process of ripping a DVD movie to the hard drive is generally quite fast, typically taking 10-20 mins. On the other hand, encoding a long movie to fit on a single DVDR (DVD5) whilst preserving as much quality as possible can take several hours or even more. Multiply this period by a large number of disks and you can quickly be talking days of processing time! What's worse is that you need to be at your computer every few hours to check the progress and start the next job. Wouldn't it be great if you could just set it running and come back a week later?

Well now you can, with BatchShrink!

In the past I have had occasion to make backups of large numbers of DVDs so I know exactly how time consuming this process can be. I often searched for a tool to run DVD Shrink from the command line, but never found one that met my requirements. So I decided to write one myself.

How Much?

It's FREE! BatchShrink is free to download and use, now and for all time. If you have been charged for BatchShrink then you have probably been done, unless it was a small fee towards server/hosting costs.

However, the development does take time and effort and since the author is currently 'between jobs' please make a donation to support the continued development of this and other projects. Even a single $, £ or € would make all the difference at the present time!
